Elderly woman robbed at husband’s grave in Independence; card used soon after

Police are asking for help identifying a woman who allegedly used an older woman’s debit card moments after her purse was snatched as she was putting flowers on her husband’s headstone in Independence.

The older woman was robbed the afternoon of Feb. 17 at unspecified cemetery. An unknown person pushed her to the ground and stole her purse, said Officer Alayna Gonzalez, a spokesperson with the Kansas City Police Department.

Minutes later, a woman used the victim’s debit card shortly after 1 p.m. at the Express Stop convenience store at 8501 E. Winner Road on Kansas City’s East Side.

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477), or Kansas City Police Department’s Detective Mark Spiegel at 816-413-3425.
