Two injured after crash during police chase in Kansas City’s Northeast area

Two people suffered non-life-threatening injuries when the SUV they were in crashed during a police pursuit in Kansas City’s Northeast area, according to a police spokesperson.

The crash occurred shortly after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Independence and Indiana avenues, said Officer Alayna Gonzalez with the Kansas City Police Department.

A preliminary investigation found that officers were in pursuit of the pursued a blue Ford Explorer, which was reportedly stolen and involved in numerous property crimes, Gonzalez said.

As the Ford was headed west on Independence at high speeds, the driver attempted to turn left onto Indiana. The SUV slid and struck a curb, causing it to overturn and stroke a wooden electrical pole on the east side of a building at 3253 Independence Avenue, Gonzalez said.

The driver of the SUV was injured and taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries, and was listed in stable condition. The front-seat passenger refused medical treatment, Gonzalez said.

No one else was injured as a result of the pursuit, Gonzalez said. The building and electrical pole sustained minor damage from the crash.
