Plea hearing set for man accused of firing fatal shot at Chiefs’ Super Bowl rally

A man accused of firing the fatal shot during the 2024 Chiefs’ Super Bowl rally mass shooting is scheduled for a plea hearing Monday morning, according to court documents.

Dominic M. Miller, 20, of Kansas City, is scheduled to appear at 10:30 a.m. Monday before Jackson County Judge Kevin D. Harrell at Jackson County Circuit Court in downtown Kansas City, according to an entry on the court docket on Sunday.

Miller, who is to stand trial in April, is one of three men accused of murder in the mass shooting that erupted near the close of the Chiefs Super Bowl celebration outside Union Station on Feb. 14, 2024, killing 43-year-old Lisa Lopez-Galvan of Shawnee.

About two dozen others were struck by gunfire, nearly half of whom were children under 16 years old, and about 60 others were injured in the crowd crush during the mass panic and stampede that followed.

Miller faces charges of second-degree felony murder, unlawful use of a weapon, and two counts of armed criminal action.

The two other men charged in the shooting are 25-year-old Lyndell Mays of Raytown and 22-year-old Terry Young of Kansas City. They both face identical charges of second-degree felony murder, unlawful use of a weapon, and two counts of armed criminal action. Mays also faces a charge of causing a catastrophe.

The violence began when an argument escalated between two groups, with Miller and Mays on opposing sides, prosecutors contend. Both suffered gunshot wounds.

Prosecutors allege that Mays pulled his handgun and fired first, but it was a bullet from Miller’s firearm that fatally struck Lopez-Galvan, according to court documents.

Under Missouri law, someone can be charged with murder even if they did not pull the trigger if a death occurs during the commission of a dangerous felony.
