19-year-old dies in Blue Springs shooting; police ask witnesses to come forward

A young man is dead after a shooting Thursday evening in a Blue Springs neighborhood, according to a post on the Blue Springs Police Department’s Facebook page.

Police identified the victim as 19-year-old Telly Magitt. Police are investigating his death as a homicide, Deputy Chief Kyle Flowers with the Blue Springs Police Department said Friday.

Officers responded to the shooting just before 8 p.m. in the 1000 block of Southwest Kingscross Road. There, they found Magitt suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

Detectives on Friday continued to investigate and follow leads to determine what led up to the shooting. At this point, no one was in custody, Flowers said.

The killing is Blue Springs’ second homicide of the year, according to data tracked by The Star. The city had no homicides last year.

Investigators asked that anyone with information contact the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477). People can also call the Blue Springs Police Department at 816-228-0151.
