Dozens of auto burglaries at Ford, Honeywell plants might be connected: police
Police are searching for four people who they believe might be linked to dozens of break-ins and vehicle thefts at the Ford Kansas City Assembly Plant in Claycomo and the Honeywell plant in south Kansas City.
At about 2:45 a.m. Tuesday, Claycomo police officers responded to reports of multiple vehicle break-ins in the employee parking lots on Ford property, said Police Chief Matt Coonce in a news release.
The plant’s security told police that four people of unknown ages were involved, but they were male, and between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet tall, Coonce said. A complete description was not available.
The car burglaries are the second vehicle break-in incident at the Ford plant this year, Coonce said.
Police determined the vehicle used in the most recent break-ins was stolen and linked to a similar incident at the Honeywell plant more than 30 miles away, Coonce said.
Investigators with the Kansas City Police Department determined that between 10 p.m. Monday and 5 a.m. Tuesday, two vehicles were damaged, two vehicles had items stolen from them, and one vehicle was stolen from the Honeywell plant, said Sgt. Phil DiMartino with the Kansas City Police Department.
“Detectives have received a number of leads, and they are following those leads to include the possible connection to the Claycomo plant,” DiMartino said.
Coonce reminded people not to leave valuables or firearms inside unattended vehicles.
Anyone with information about the auto burglaries and theft are asked to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
