Man in serious condition following shooting in south Raytown

One man was in serious condition Thursday evening after a shooting in south Raytown.

Officers with the Raytown Police Department responded to the area of Sterling Avenue and East State Route 350 at 4:30 p.m. Thursday on reports of a person shot, according to a news release from Mallory Harrison, a communication technician with the department.

There, officers found a man with an apparent gunshot wound, Harrison said. He was taken to a hospital in serious condition.

Raytown South High School is near the scene of the incident. At the time of the shooting, school was out for the day and no activities were taking place, Marissa Cleaver Wamble, chief communications officer for the Raytown C-2 School District, told The Star in an email Thursday.

No suspects are in custody,, Harrison said, and an investigation is ongoing.
