Overland Park man sentenced to nearly 16 years on child pornography charges

An Overland Park man was sentenced to nearly 16 years in federal prison Tuesday after pleading guilty to child pornography charges.

Jason Shellenbergar, 50, signed a plea agreement on June 5, 2025, pleading guilty to two counts of distribution of child pornography, one count of possession of child pornography and one count of receipt of child pornography, according to a federal plea agreement.

The allegations stem from incidents that occurred in 2020, in which Shellenbergar shared links to content containing child sexual abuse, according to the plea agreement. He admitted to distributing files containing child sexual abuse through a social media application.

At the time of the incidents, Shellenbergar resided in Independence, according to the plea agreement. During the execution of a search warrant at his home, he admitted that several devices, including two cellphones and a laptop, contained child pornography.

Following his sentence, Shellenbergar will complete 15 years of supervised release, according to a news release from Bailey Coulter, a spokesperson for U.S. Attorney R. Matthew Price.

Shellenbergar will be required to register as a sex offender upon his release from prison, according to the news release.
