Man in critical condition after shooting at Lawrence apartment complex
A man was hospitalized in critical condition in Lawrence on Friday after a shooting at an apartment complex.
Officers with the Lawrence Police Department were called to the Hawks Point apartment complex around 11:45 a.m., according to department spokesperson Laura McCabe. There, officers found the man with a gunshot wound and several other people, McCabe said.
A preliminary investigation revealed a suspect had knocked on a door at the apartment and shot the victim in the doorway, McCabe said.
Investigators identified a suspect and obtained a description of the vehicle in which he had fled the scene. The vehicle was found empty at a home near West Fourth and Minnesota streets.
Nearly four hours later, officers located the suspect near Sixth and Iowa streets in a different vehicle, McCabe said. The car was followed until it stopped in a neighborhood near Kasold Drive and Peterson Road.
Three individuals inside the car surrendered without incident, McCabe said. Everyone involved is being questioned, she said.
The victim remains in critical condition.
