One dead after shooting at intersection in midtown Kansas City

A man is dead after a shooting near Midtown on Wednesday afternoon.

Officers with the Kansas City Police Department were called to the area of Linwood and Broadway boulevards on reports of shots fired at approximately 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, department spokesperson Capt. Jake Becchina said in a news release.

Near the intersection, officers located a vehicle with an unresponsive man inside. He had been shot, Becchina said. The man was alone.

The victim was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the news release.

A preliminary investigation found that the man was inside a vehicle when another vehicle pulled up, Becchina said. A person in the second vehicle allegedly fired shots toward the victim, striking him.

The intersection of Linwood and Broadway boulevards is a “heavily traveled area with vehicle and foot traffic,” Becchina said. Near the intersection are Cristo Rey Kansas City High School, Metropolitan Community College and Children’s Mercy Clinics on Broadway.

Anyone with information regarding the shooting is asked to contact the Kansas City Police Department at 816-234-5043 or the anonymous TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS. A reward of up to $25,000 may be available for information submitted through the TIPS hotline.
