Police searching for 10-week-old Chihuahua stolen from Blue Springs pet store
Kansas City police are seeking the public’s help in locating a woman who allegedly stole a 10-week-old puppy from a Blue Springs pet store Monday afternoon.
The Chihuahua puppy, named Clarice, was taken from Petland in Blue Springs around 5 p.m. Monday, according to a press release from Maria Smith, a spokesperson for Petland.
Surveillance footage shows the woman entering the store at 4:04 p.m. Monday, Smith said. She walked around the facility before leaving four minutes later.
The woman returned at 4:49 p.m. and requested to visit Clarice, Smith said. Surveillance footage shows the woman with Clarice in one of the store’s socialization rooms. She allegedly stood up, looked around the store, and put the puppy into her jacket before leaving.
“The store was extremely busy at the time, with pet counselors preparing three puppies to go home with their new families,” Smith said.
Clarice is a tan, 10-week-old Chihuahua with a white patch on her neck and upper chest, Smith said. She weighs 2.2 pounds.
The Chihuahua struggles to eat, and needs special care to help her to do so, Smith said. Her small size makes her susceptible to hypoglycemia, which is potentially deadly for a small puppy.
“It is important that the puppy is returned to get the attention and monitoring that she needs,” Smith said.
Anyone with information regarding the incident is encouraged to contact KCPD’s North Patrol Division at 816-234-5540 or the anonymous TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
