A 24-year-old man is in stable condition following a police shooting at a bank in Leavenworth, according to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.

Around 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Leavenworth police officers were called to The Citizens National Bank on reports of an armed man, according to a news release from the KBI.

When officers arrived, they located Andrew Hutchinson behind the bank armed with a rifle, according to the release. Hutchinson “briefly complied” with officers commands, but then fled on foot through an alley behind the bank.

Multiple officers chased Hutchinson, the release said. As officers chased him, one officer fired toward Hutchinson, striking him.

Officers and emergency personnel rendered aid to Hutchinson at the scene, according to the release. He was transported to an area hospital where he remains in stable condition.

The KBI is investigating the incident, including the events that led up to the shooting, according to the press release.
