Parkville man with long criminal history sentenced to prison for domestic assault
A Parkville man who had previously been convicted of child sex trafficking was sentenced to nearly 50 years in prison for sex and drug related charges in relation to abusing his partner in Platte County.
Donald Elbert, 40, received a 45-year sentence Monday after being found guilty of first-degree sodomy, first-degree domestic assault, delivery of a controlled substance, and two counts of possession of a controlled substance, according to court records.
According to prosecutors, Elbert forcibly sodomized and assaulted a 30-year-old woman, his partner, in their home on Nov. 24, 2024. The woman went to a hospital two days after the assault, where she was treated for 29 bruises over various parts of her body, according to a statement from Platte County Prosecutor Eric Zahnd.
The woman reported previous assaults, including an incident where her nose was split open after being thrown into a nightstand.
Elbert has an extensive criminal record with two previous felony convictions and is registered as a sex offender through Platte County, according to Zahnd.
In 2003, Elbert pleaded guilty to the felony of endangering the welfare of a child in the St. Louis area and received probation. He pleaded guilty to sex trafficking a child in federal court in Kansas City in 2008 and received an eight year sentence.
Elbert has also been arrested for a litany of other crimes, including assault, murder, possession of controlled substances and probation violations, in addition to his convictions, according to court records.
Elbert also currently has a pending third-degree assault case in Clay County, where he allegedly punched a woman in traffic in North Kansas City last June, Zahnd said in a news release statement.
