A Kansas City man who hid a loaded firearm on a convenience store shelf in 2023 has been sentenced to over nine years in federal prison .

Shannon Price, 30, was sentenced to 115 months Wednesday on one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to a federal court document. Upon his release from prison, Price will have to serve three years of supervised.

On July 28, 2023, law enforcement officials were investigating a stolen vehicle ring when they saw Price driving a stolen vehicle, according to a press release from the United States Attorney’s Office of the Western District of Missouri.

Price drove the stolen vehicle to a convenience store that afternoon and entered the establishment with a loaded firearm, according to the press release.

When Price noticed law enforcement officials he hid the loaded firearm on a lower shelf in the store “where anyone could have retrieved it,” the press release said.

Officers were able to retrieve the firearm before anyone else found it, according to the press release. At the time of the incident, Price was on probation for an aggravated assault conviction.
