Four people, including three adults and a juvenile, were arrested Sunday night and early Monday after law enforcement, starting with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, chased a vehicle on state highways and city streets across the Kansas City metro as people in the vehicle allegedly fired at them.

One of the suspects, the highway patrol said, had to be pulled from a sewer drain where they were found hiding.

No one was struck by gunfire, with only a state trooper vehicle marked by bullet holes, according to pictures shared by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Police officers from Kansas City, Liberty, North Kansas City, Pleasant Valley and sheriff’s deputies from Clay County and Jackson County assisted state troopers with the chase.

Around 10:27 p.m., a state trooper engaged in a pursuit of a gray passenger car for speeding and a registration violation on southbound Interstate 35, south of Missouri Route 291 in Liberty, after the vehicle allegedly failed to stop for an initiated traffic stop, according to a press release from the highway patrol.

A passenger in the car allegedly began shooting at the trooper approximately 12 minutes later, according to the release. The pursuit continued south on I-35, where the vehicle exited onto Northeast Chouteau Trafficway, and traveled on multiple city streets.

Then the gray car returned to the highway on southbound I-29, continuing south to Interstate 70 in Jackson County.

At approximately 10:41 p.m., while traveling east on I-70, the vehicle began to exit at 18th Street while a passenger allegedly continued to fire at the trooper and struck his patrol car, according to highway patrol.

Shots were also fired at Kansas City police officers near East 17th Street and Jackson Avenue. The pursuit ended in the area of Cleveland Avenue and East 41st Street in Kansas City, where four people fled the vehicle, with three of them being taken into custody shortly after.

The fourth suspect was found in a sewer drain at approximately 4 a.m., highway patrol stated.

Criminal charges are pending as the investigation continues.
