Former Leavenworth teacher sentenced to 10 years in prison for child sex crimes
A former Leavenworth teacher was sentenced to more than 10 years in prison after he was found guilty of sex crimes involving children.
Jerome Riscovallez, 55, pleaded no contest to two counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child in a plea agreement in Leavenworth County court on Sep. 5, according to court documents.
The court found Riscovallez guilty the same day, according to court documents. As part of the plea agreement, criminal restraint and battery charges were dismissed.
Riscovallez was sentenced to 122 months total in prison on Friday, according to a press release.
Riscovallez, a STEM teacher at Henry Leavenworth Elementary School, was arrested on Feb. 27 after accusations of “inappropriate conduct with a minor” were brought to the Leavenworth Police Department, LPD Chief Pat Kitchens previously told The Star.
Riscovallez was placed on administrative leave on Feb. 14 and banned from all USD 453 properties during a human resources investigation, according to an email sent to district staff and families at the time. After Riscovallez’s Feb. 27 arrest, his employment was officially terminated.
Riscovallez had worked for the school district since Aug. 2018.
According to court documents, six elementary-aged students came forward with allegations against Riscovallez.
The students claimed Riscovallez would inappropriately touch them and give them gifts such as trading cards and candy, according to a press release from Leavenworth County Attorney Todd Thompson.
