Another surge of gun violence swept through the Kansas City metro this weekend, leaving three people dead and two others wounded, authorities said.

The separate shootings unfolded hours apart — one in Kansas City, Kansas, and the other in south Kansas City.

In Kansas City, Kansas, officers responded shortly after 7 p.m. Saturday to a triple shooting in the 1600 block of Washington Boulevard, said Capt. Osvaldo Navarro with the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department.

They found three shooting victims: two men and a woman. One man died at the scene, Navarro said. The second man died later at the hospital. The female victim’s injuries were not life-threatening, Navarro said.

Police later identified the men killed as Tyler Wheeler, 26, of Kansas City, Kansas, and Victor Loza, 22, of Bonner Springs, Kansas. The woman who survived the shooting is a 19-year-old from Kansas City, Kansas.

The shooter fled before officers arrived, and no suspect information was available.

The double homicide marks the 13th and 14th killings of the year in Kansas City, Kansas, according to data tracked by The Star, which includes fatal police shootings. That compares to 17 homicides reported at this time last year.

Teen killed in double shooting in south KC

Roughly five hours later, gunfire in a parking lot in south Kansas City killed a 14-year-old boy, identified by police as Teandre Gibson, and wounded a girl under the age of 16.

Officers were called just after 12:15 a.m. Sunday in the 1700 block of East 97th Street in the Linden Hills and Indian Heights neighborhood of Kansas City, where several people were reportedly involved in an altercation before shots were fired, Officer Alayna Gonzalez with the Kansas City Police Department.

Those involved scattered and fled before police arrived, Gonzalez said.

Shortly thereafter, a hospital notified police that both victims had arrived. Teandre died from his injuries, while police described the girl’s injuries as non-life-threatening.

Police had no suspects in custody. They also did not have information about what led up to the shooting.

Shots fired during road rage incident

The killing is Kansas City’s 102nd homicide of the year, according to data tracked by The Star, which includes fatal police shootings. That compares to 97 homicides reported by this time last year.

In another gun-related incident, Grain Valley police are investigating a reported road rage incident where one driver fired a gun at another driver about 5 p.m. on Main Street south of U.S. 40. No one, however, was injured.

Police quickly found and arrested the suspect, and police say they are not seeking any others in connection with the case.

Meanwhile, police are searching for an alleged hit-and-run driver who fatally struck a pedestrian in a crosswalk Saturday night in Kansas City’s Northeast area.

Hit-and-run driver kills pedestrian in crosswalk

Around 10 p.m., the driver of a silver Toyota Camry was headed west on Independence Avenue at high speeds and ran a red traffic light at Monroe Avenue.

The driver struck a pedestrian crossing the street, throwing the person to the ground and then running over the pedestrian. The driver then fled without stopping.

The pedestrian was rushed to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and did not survive.

Saturday’s death marks Kansas City’s 47th traffic fatality of the year, compared to 59 deaths at this point last year.
