Man shot and killed by KCK police after he allegedly pulled gun on cashier

A man died on Friday after being shot by Kansas City Kansas police.

Kansas City Kansas police officers were called to Crown Tobacco at 8301 State Avenue around 2:50 p.m. on reports of a robbery, according to an email from Kansas Bureau of Investigation public affairs specialist Dustin Wallace.

Paul Beasley Jr., 24, had allegedly entered the business minutes before and pointed a firearm at the cashier, Wallace said. The man allegedly told the cashier to call 911 and tell police the store was being robbed.

A KCKPD officer entered the business, saw Beasley had a firearm, and retreated outside, Wallace said. Beasley followed the officer outside, where “a shooting occurred,” Wallace said.

Five officers struck Beasley and rendered aid until he could be transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Wallace said.

No officers were injured in the incident, Wallace said. KBI continues to investigate the incident.
