Man charged, accused of shooting ex-girlfriend’s friend in parking lot
A Kansas City man faces assault charges after he allegedly followed his ex-girlfriend to a bar and shot a man she was talking to in a parking lot.
Ivory Bridgewater faces one count each of first-degree assault resulting in physical injury or a special victim and armed criminal action, according to Jackson County court documents.
Kansas City police officers were dispatched to Waldo Social around 10:30 p.m. Monday, where they located a male victim with six gunshot wounds to his back, according to a probable cause affidavit in support of Bridgewater’s arrest.
A female witness told officers she was playing kickball at the park earlier in the day, according to the affidavit. Bridgewater was also at the park.
The woman identified herself as Bridgewater’s ex-girlfriend, telling officers the pair had dated for 12 years and broke up three months ago. The pair had been in communication “off and on.”
Bridgewater’s ex-girlfriend mentioned to officers that he had been displaying “stalker tendencies,” over the last few weeks, and had placed an Apple AirTag in the woman’s car and followed her around.
The woman left the park with a friend around 10 p.m. and headed toward Waldo Social, according to the affidavit, with Bridgewater following.
The witness texted Bridgewater and told the man to “stop following her and she was going to call the police,” according to the affidavit. The woman and her friend arrived at the bar around 10:15 p.m. and parked near the front of the parking lot.
The pair went inside to meet a man the witness’s friend had been dating, according to the affidavit. The women used the bathroom before walking outside with the man.
The two women were talking to the man when the witness noticed Bridgewater’s blue Tesla parked facing her vehicle, according to the affidavit. As the man began to walk toward his own car, Bridgewater allegedly got out of his vehicle and shot the man “multiple times.”
One of the women rendered aid to the man as she called police.
Video surveillance corroborated the witness’ story, according to the affidavit.
Approximately eight hours before the shooting, Kansas City police officers took a domestic assault report at Bridgewater’s residence, according to the affidavit.
Bridgewater is not currently housed in the Jackson County Detention Center. No further court dates are set in the case.
