Kansas City police are investigating the death of a man on Tuesday in Kansas City’s Hanover Place neighborhood, according to a press release from Kansas City Police Department Sgt. Phillip DiMartino.

Officers responded to the area of West 38th Street and Baltimore Avenue just before 11:30 a.m. Tuesday on reports of a “medical nature unknown call for service,” DiMartino said.

Callers reported a man “rolling around on the ground,” DiMartino said.

When officers arrived at the scene, they located a man without any clothes on, DiMartino said. The man was “detained, in handcuffs, for his safety and the safety of those around him.”

As officers waited for an ambulance to arrive, the man became unresponsive, DiMartino said. The man was transported to an area hospital in life-threatening condition.

The man was declared dead at the hospital, DiMartino said.

Detectives have opened a death investigation and are working with the medical examiner to determine the cause and manner of death.

The name of the deceased man has not yet been released.
