Two teens hospitalized after shooting, hit-and-run in KC park. What we know

The Kansas City Police Department has begun preliminary investigations after two teenage girls were injured at Pleasant Valley Park over the weekend.

On Sunday, June 29, shortly after midnight, police officers were called about a hit-and-run incident involving a 16-year-old girl at 6401 NE Pleasant Valley Road.

Upon their arrival at Pleasant Valley Park, officers were informed that another teenager, a 15-year-old, had been sent to the hospital earlier after sustaining gunshot wounds at the same park.

The victim who suffered from gunshot wounds told hospital staff she was shot after a verbal altercation escalated into physical force being used against the vehicle she was in.

The driver of the vehicle then drove off as tensions increased, leading to shots being fired at the vehicle, which resulted in the teenager’s injuries.

KC police have received tips in the case

In an email to the Star, KCPD public information officer Alayna Gonzalez said detectives have received several tips regarding the incidents and are making progressive headway in suspect development.

“Detectives are working diligently to review all evidence and follow all leads,” Gonzalez wrote. “They are working hand-in-hand with Clay County Prosecutors to submit a complete case file for charging consideration.”

While KCPD does not have an update on the victim of the hit-and-run, the victim struck by gunfire is currently recovering from non-life-threatening injuries.

Gonzalez also mentioned that the safety of anyone “who lives, works, or visits Kansas City is the forefront of our (KCPD) priority. We want everyone in Kansas City to enjoy our public parks and feel safe doing so.”

Law enforcement added that it will continue to evaluate crime trends and focus efforts on meeting community needs.
