Man charged in fatal shooting of 45-year-old in Knoches Park neighborhood
Charges have been filed in Jackson County court against a man accused of the shooting death of a 45-year-old.
De’Onte Thompson faces one charge each of second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the shooting death of Terrance M. Bell, according to a press release from Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office.
Around 10:20 a.m. on June 21, Kansas City police officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 4200 block of East Linwood Avenue in the Knoches Park neighborhood of Kansas City, according to a probable cause affidavit for Thompson’s arrest.
Bell was located in the kitchen of a residence with gunshot wounds to his back, according to court documents. He was pronounced dead at an area hospital hours later.
Officers found two spent 9 mm shell casings near the back door of the residence, according to court documents. A large pool of blood was located in the kitchen.
A witness told detectives she and Bell had been in bed when they heard a knock at the back door, according to court documents. She heard a commotion before she heard a man, who she identified as Thomspon, tell Bell not to move.
The woman then heard three gunshots, and saw Bell attempt to close the back door, according to court documents. Thompson reportedly fled the scene.
Thompson is being held without bond, according to the press release. He is set to appear for an initial appearance on July, 1, according to court documents.
