Interstate 35 closed in Liberty as officers pursue armed subject, police say
Update: Interstate 35 has reopened in both directions, according to a press release from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to an area hospital with minor self-inflicted injuries.
Interstate 35 is closed from 69 Highway to 152 Highway in Liberty Friday afternoon because of a police pursuit, according to a news release from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies attempted to stop a vehicle on Northeast 69 highway near Stockdale Road at 2:47 p.m., according to the release. The driver had a felony warrant out for their arrest.
The driver fled south on 69 Highway, eventually entering Interstate 35, according to the release.
After a tire deflation device was used, the driver stopped and a passenger got out of the vehicle, according to the release. The driver then took off, striking a second tire deflation device.
The car was eventually stopped when police used a pit maneuver, according to the release. The armed driver refused to leave the vehicle.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office is deploying its Special Tactics and Response Team to “bring a safe resolution to the situation,” according to the release. Interstate 35 remained closed Friday afternoon.
