Man installing flooring in Peculiar home charged with sexual assault of child
A Kansas City, Kansas, man was charged in Cass County on Friday after allegedly sexually assaulting a child while installing flooring in a Peculiar home, according to a news release from Cass County Sheriff’s Office Media Specialist Ronnie Lozano.
Enrique Lopez Martinez, 63, faces two counts of statutory sodomy or attempted statutory sodomy with a person under 12 years old, according to Cass County court documents.
Deputies were dispatched to a residence in rural Peculiar on Thursday upon reports of a sexual assault, according to court documents. There, they made contact with a man who told deputies that a child had been sexually assaulted by a man installing flooring in the home.
The child had been “going back and forth around the house” watching multiple men installing flooring in the home at the time of the assault, according to court documents.
In an interview with police, Lopez Martinez allegedly told officers he had never been alone in the home with the child, according to court documents. He said he had talked to the child about writing on their shirt and the pair “threw a ball back and forth a few times.”
Lopez Martinez is being held at the Cass County Jail with no bond, according to the news release. According to court documents, he is set to appear for an arraignment hearing on July 9.
