Kansas City police officer injured in car crash while pursuing subject, police say
A Kansas City police officer was injured in a collision in Westport on Wednesday, according to a news release from Officer Alayna Gonzalez.
Around 4:30 p.m., officers responded to reports of a police-involved collision with injuries at Westport Road and Broadway Boulevard, according to the news release.
A preliminary investigation showed that a marked police vehicle was eastbound on Westport Road, assisting in the pursuit of someone who had stolen a vehicle, according to the news release. The police vehicle’s emergency lights were on during the pursuit.
The police vehicle traveled into both eastbound and westbound lanes of Westport Road to get around traffic, according to the news release. As the vehicle made a right turn onto Broadway Boulevard, it was struck by a gray Volkswagen Passat traveling east on Westport Road.
The driver and passenger in the Volkswagen were uninjured, according to the news release. The driver and backseat passenger of the police vehicle were also uninjured.
The front seat passenger of the police vehicle was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the news release. The officer remains in stable condition.
