Man convicted of manslaughter in 2011 death of Olathe woman
An Olathe man pleaded no contest Monday to an involuntary manslaughter charge for his role in the 2011 killing of a woman.
Samuel L. Moore, 30, initially was charged with first-degree murder in the February 2011 killing of 25-year-old Laura K. Coltrane in Olathe.
But on Monday, he was found guilty of the lesser charge after agreeing to not contest it. His sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 29 in Johnson County District Court.
Moore has spent more than three years in jail since his arrest in the case.
His brother, Derek Deon Owens, was the estranged boyfriend of Coltrane and is serving a 74-year prison sentence after a jury found him guilty of second-degree murder in the strangulation and beating death of Coltrane in her apartment in the 600 block of South Lakehurst Drive.
Owens, 33, was also found guilty of rape, aggravated criminal sodomy and violation of a protection order.
