Olathe teen charged in infant’s death and abandonment

A 19-year-old woman has been charged with first-degree murder in the December death of her newborn girl.

Marissa Carol Fields of Olathe also faces aggravated abandonment of a child in connection with the child’s death. Bond was set at $100,000.

According to court documents, Fields intentionally neglected and abandoned the child.

Officers sent Dec. 26 to the residence in the 11300 block of South Millview Road in regard to a possibly deceased infant confirmed that the newborn girl had died. Fields told officers that she had given birth to the child.

Fields is scheduled to appear in Johnson County District Court on Aug. 20.
