Kansas City police are investing a body discovered about 8:20 a.m. Friday in an alley between houses near the intersection of Drury and Thompson avenues.

Police had not released a cause of death Friday but were investigating it as suspicious. They described the man as being about 18 years old.

Later Friday morning, his mother arrived at the scene and said she had been called by her son’s friends and asked to come to the Northeast area neighborhood.

Representatives of Mothers in Charge, an anti-crime community group, were on the scene consoling the mother and talking with onlookers.

If ruled a homicide, it will be the city’s fourth this week.
