Man charged with arson that destroyed Shawnee mansion
A 34-year-old Shawnee man has been charged with setting the fire that destroyed a $1.5 million Shawnee mansion last year.
Johnson County prosecutors charged Gabriel Walker Davis with arson, aggravated burglary and felony theft. He appeared in court on the charges Wednesday and is being held on a $100,000 bond.
The Sept. 10 fire destroyed a 9,000-square-foot home at 5450 Lackman Road in a secluded area near Lake Quivira.
The theft charge against Davis alleges that he stole a 2013 Honda Civic, a Kawasaki motorcycle, cash and other personal items from the home.
Prosecutors also charged Davis with failing to update his registration on the state’s offender registry. His bond in that case is set at $25,000.
Court records show that he has a statutory rape conviction in Jackson County and also served Kansas prison time for a drug conspiracy conviction.
