A 28-year-old Shawnee man was charged Monday with attacking two neighbors with an ax.

Johnson County prosecutors charged Anthony Monroe Townsend with aggravated burglary and two counts of aggravated battery. His bond was set at $250,000.

The incident occurred just after 11:30 a.m. Saturday in the 6400 block of Noreston Street in Shawnee.

Townsend allegedly broke into the neighbors’ home with the intent to commit a felony, according to court documents.

The victims, a husband and wife, were taken to a hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The first police officers on the scene saw Townsend leaving the victims’ residence, police said.
