Overland Park police searching for suspect in alleged sexual assault, theft

Overland Park police are searching for a suspect in an alleged theft and sexual assault authorities say occurred early Tuesday morning.

The alleged crimes took place in a home near West 97th Circle and Reeder Drive at approximately 2:40 a.m., police said.

The victim did not know their attacker, police said. Although they were unable to identify the suspect, they did provide a description, according to police. Police are now searching for a man in his late twenties to early thirties with a stocky build, who is clean-shaven and was last seen wearing a black jacket and black beanie-style cap.

The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

In a statement from Overland Park Police Chief Doreen Jokerst, she shared that regional public safety partners are also working to locate the suspect, and the department’s hearts are with the survivor.

“While incidents like this are extremely rare in Overland Park, we fully recognize the gravity and urgency of the situation,” Jokerst said. “This is why community support is so critical to our work, and we rely on the public to help us in cases like this.”

People with information are encouraged to contact Overland Park police or the Greater Kansas City Crime Stoppers tips hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
