One man killed in a Kansas City home Saturday after an altercation escalated to gunfire
Kansas City police are investigating a shooting that killed one person in Kansas City Saturday evening.
Officers were called to a residence in the 2700 block of Garfield Avenue where they found a man with a gunshot wound unresponsive and who was declared dead at the scene. Several people were at the scene, according to Capt. Jake Becchina, spokesperson for the KCPD.
Police later identified the person killed as Marcus J. Oldham, 27.
One of the people at the scene was a man who man was detained for further investigation. Police are not looking for additional suspects at this time, Becchina said in a news release. Preliminary investigation indicates the victim was in the residence when he had an interaction with a person that escalated and led to gunfire.
This killing marks the city’s 132nd homicide in 2024, compared to 161 this time last year, according to homicides tracked by the Kansas City Star.
