The Belton Police Department is investigating an armed carjacking that happened Tuesday evening at an exit ramp off Interstate 49, where the suspects allegedly hit the victim’s vehicle before carjacking it.

Police are trying to find three suspects they believe were involved in the carjacking at the 163rd Street exit of Interstate 49. Just before 6 p.m., the victim was driving a blue Dodge Charger when they were struck from behind by a dark blue Kia Optima, said Lt. Mary Bruegge, a spokeswoman with Belton Police Department.

After the Kia hit the Charger, both drivers pulled over, Bruegge said. While checking the rear of the Dodge, one of the occupants from the Kia got into the victim’s Charger and fled the scene.

Police checked the license plate of the Kia and discovered it was a stolen vehicle, Bruegge said.

An investigation is ongoing and police urge anyone with information to contact the Belton Police Department at (816) 331-1500. Bruegge said people should not attempt to make contact or approach the vehicle or its occupants.
