Shooting on Kansas City area highway leaves one person with critical injuries

One person suffered critical injuries in a shooting on a highway Tuesday night in Independence, a police spokeswoman said.

The shooting occurred about 9:15 p.m. along westbound Interstate 70 near the Little Blue Parkway, said Officer Kelley Rupert, a spokeswoman for the Independence Police Department.

Responding officers found one person who had been shot. The person was taken to a hospital with critical injuries. The person firing the shots drove away from the area and headed west., police said.

On Wednesday, detectives were still working to determine whether the shooting was a road rage incident or if it was a continuation of a situation that the victim was leaving, Rupert said.

No suspect information was available, according to police. Rupert said the vehicle involved in the shooting was believed to be a white Chrysler.
