A 31-year-old Kansas City man is the second person to be charged in a fight where a man was stabbed on a RideKC bus in Kansas City, prosecutors announced Thursday.

The Jackson County prosecutor on Wednesday charged Mohummad S. Baker with one count of first-degree assault for his role in the fight and stabbing that occurred Aug. 5 on a RideKC bus in the Midtown area of Kansas City.

Earlier this week, prosecutors charged 31-year-old Shaunte L. Washington with one count each of first-degree assault and armed criminal action.

According to court documents, the stabbing took place about 1:30 p.m. aboard the bus near 31st Street and Troost Avenue.

The victim, whose name was redacted from the charging documents, told police that he was riding the bus when Washington boarded the bus. She was talking to herself and became loud and was cussing. Washington got into an argument with another female rider.

According to court documents, the victim intervened so that Washington wouldn’t harm the other rider.

Baker then became involved, saying he wouldn’t let the victim hit Washington. Baker and the victim argued while Washington confronted the other rider.

The fight escalated, and Washington allegedly pulled out a knife and threatened to kill the female rider. The victim told police he pulled out a baton, and Baker started hitting him with closed fists. Washington allegedly began stabbing the victim, according to court documents.

When the victim dropped the baton, Washington allegedly picked it up and started hitting him with it while she continued to stab the victim.

The victim suffered wounds to both thighs and his right arm. During the stabbing, a femoral artery was struck.

A Kansas City Area Transportation Authority security officer boarded the bus after the stabbing and ordered Washington at gunpoint to drop her weapons, according to court documents. She dropped the baton but allegedly placed the knife back in her bra.

The security officer handcuffed Washington to a railing in the bus.

When questioned by police, Baker allegedly told them he had recognized his friend, Washington, arguing with another female rider on the bus. Baker told police police that he got into an argument with the stabbing victim after believing he was going to strike Washington. Baker, who said he wanted to protect Washington, said the victim spat in his face.

After the victim allegedly pulled out a baton and struck Washington, Baker said he hit the victim multiple times. Baker said he believed that the victim was the one armed with the knife, not Baker. Baker allegedly later admitted that Washington was the one with the knife and had pointed it at the female rider.

Baker was being held in Jackson County jail on a $50,000 bond. Washington was also held in Jackson County jail on a $75,000 bond.
