Police investigating weekend shooting that injured boy under age 5 in Kansas City

A young boy was injured in a shooting Saturday afternoon in Kansas City.

Officers responded to the shooting around 3:52 p.m. in the 6600 block of Bellefontaine Avenue, according to Sgt. Phillip DiMartino, a spokesman for the Kansas City Police Department.

A boy under the age of 5 had been shot, and had injuries that were not life threatening, he said. He is receiving medical treatment at a local hospital. His current condition is not known.

The police investigation is ongoing. Police have not released details on the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
