Pedestrian dies after hit-and-run crash in KU Health System parking garage in Westwood

A pedestrian died following a hit-and-run crash Thursday morning at the University of Kansas Cancer Center in Westwood.

The crash occurred around 7:50 a.m. in the cancer center’s parking garage at 2650 Shawnee Parkway.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office identified the man who was killed as 94-year-old William J. Ward, of Leawood. The driver of the vehicle that struck Ward left the scene, but was later located and taken in for questioning, the sheriff’s office said.

Health system officials said care at the facility continued after the crash, although parking had to be redirected

The investigation by the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office and Westwood Police is ongoing. Anyone with information about the incident may contact investigators by calling 913-782-0720.
