Kansas City police were investigating a hit-and-run crash Wednesday that left a child in the hospital with critical injuries.

The crash happened around 4:45 p.m. at 33rd Street and Oakland Avenue when the child ran out in the street, police said in a written statement Wednesday night. Capt. Jake Becchina, a KCPD spokesman, said in an email the child was under 10 years old.

Police said the child was run over by a white van. The van’s make and model were not known.

The driver fled the area after the crash, according to police. Police were attempting to locate the van and the driver.
