Lenexa police on Friday arrested a man accused of beating and sexually assaulting a woman in her home Thursday night.

Police said they searched for Gary A. McCormick, 58, most of the day before finding him Friday afternoon at a casino in Kansas City, Kan.

The victim suffered potentially life-threatening injuries in the attack, which was reported about 10:30 p.m. Thursday in the 10900 block of Richards Court, police said.

Prosecutors charged McCormick with attempted second-degree murder, rape and aggravated criminal sodomy.

Detectives tracked his cellphone to the general area of downtown Kansas City, Kan., and found McCormick’s truck in the parking lot of the 7th Street Casino.

Police waited for McCormick to leave the casino and arrested him about 5:45 p.m. He was in the custody of Lenexa police, who planned to hold him in the Johnson County jail.
