Cyclist died, driver in custody following hit-and-run crash early Sunday in Kansas City
A bicyclist died and one person is in custody following a hit-and-run crash early Sunday in Kansas City.
Officers responded to the crash around 1:51 a.m. in the area of 82nd and North Oak streets, according to Capt. Corey Carlisle, a spokesman for the Kansas City Police Department.
A Ford F150 struck a bicyclist traveling southbound on Oak and left the scene without stopping.
The cyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.
Police located the Ford in the area of 79th Street and Oak and took the driver into custody. The driver and passenger in the Ford were not injured in the crash.
The investigation is ongoing and will consider impairment as a possible factor.
This is the sixth road fatality in Kansas City this year compared with three at this time last year, according to data tracked by police.
