1 arrested in Shawnee hit-and-run that left 9-year-old critically injured: Police

A 9-year-old was critically injured and one person was arrested after a hit-and-run crash in Shawnee on Friday night, according to police.

Officers and emergency medical services were dispatched around 7 p.m. to a reported collision between a white truck and a black sedan at Johnson Drive and Bell Road, the department said in a statement posted on social media.

The driver of the truck allegedly left the area. He was apprehended by the city’s K-9 Unit, the department said.

Police said the child was being treated at a local hospital.

Detectives were interviewing witnesses on Friday night as the cause of the crash remained under investigation.
