Nine-year-old boy critically injured after car hit him and fled scene in Kansas City

A child is critically injured following a hit-and-run crash Wednesday night in Kansas City.

Officers responded around 7:15 p.m. to the area of North Hardesty and Saida avenues, where they found the 9-year-old boy and his father, according to Officer Alayna Gonzalez, a spokeswoman for the Kansas City Police Department.

The father and son were crossing Hardesty, when a black sedan struck the boy and fled the scene.

The child was taken to a hospital with critical injuries. As of 1 p.m. Thursday, police said the child was listed in critical but stable condition and appeared to be making positive steps toward recovery.

Police located a suspect vehicle and identified a person of interest in the crash. Detectives are pursuing charges as the investigation continues.
