A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a crash Friday afternoon in Kansas City’s Stayton Meadows neighborhood, according to police.

Officers were dispatched around 2:15 p.m. to East 47th Street and Ash Avenue on a report of a two-vehicle collision, Kansas City police said in a written statement.

Witnesses told police the driver of a Suzuki motorcycle was speeding on 47th Street before the crash and crossed to the wrong side of the road to pass traffic.

As a small Ford pickup was turning left on Ash, police said, the motorcyclist struck the truck bed and was thrown from the Suzuki.

Police said the motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet, suffered serious injuries and was taken to the hospital by ambulance. The driver and a passenger in the Ford were not injured, according to police.
