Driver critically injured after colliding with school bus Monday morning in Kansas City

A driver is badly injured after crashing their car into a school bus Monday morning in Kansas City.

The driver of a gray Hyundai Elantra was headed eastbound on Nicholson Avenue as a the driver of a yellow school bus was headed southbound on North Chestnut Avenue, according to an initial crash report from the Kansas City Police Department.

Just after 8:15 a.m. Monday, the driver of the Elantra allegedly ran a stop sign and drove into the intersection of Nicholson Avenue and North Chestnut Avenue, where it collided with the school bus, police said.

The Hyundai driver was hospitalized with critical injuries, police said. The school bus driver, along with a bus monitor and two children on the bus, were not injured.
