The driver of a parked SUV suffered life-threatening injuries when a fast-moving Honda Accord slammed into it in the parking lot of a Kansas City Northland park Sunday night, a police spokeswoman said.

Police responded to the crash about 10:30 p.m. Sunday in a parking lot at Hodge Park at Northeast 96th Street and Northeast Reinking Road, said Officer Alayna Gonzalez, a spokeswoman for the Kansas City Police Department.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a gray VW Tiguan compact SUV was parked in the park’s parking lot. Meanwhile, the driver of a white Honda Accord was headed north through the parking lot at a “high rate of speed,” Gonzalez said.

The Honda crashed into the side of the compact SUV, causing the VW to roll over onto its roof, Gonzalez said.

A passenger inside the Honda suffered serious injuries. The driver of the Honda was not injured.
