Johnson County bicyclist hit by vehicle, critically hurt; ‘impaired driving’ suspected

Police in Lenexa were investigating a suspected case of impaired driving on Thursday after a crash involving a vehicle and two bicyclists, including one who was seriously injured.

Around 7:30 p.m., Lenexa officers were dispatched to West 83rd Street and Woodland Road on a reported injury crash, master police officer Danny Chavez said in a statement.

One of the bicyclists, a woman, was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, while another, a man, suffered injuries that were less severe, Chavez said.

Chavez said the driver of the vehicle, a man, was taken into police custody.

The crash was being investigated by Lenexa’s traffic safety unit on Thursday night.
