Pickup strikes, kills 20-year-old woman outside disabled vehicle in southeast Liberty

A 20-year-old pedestrian outside a broken down vehicle died after being struck by a Dodge Ram pickup Tuesday afternoon in southeast Liberty, police said in a news release.

Savanna Churchill of Liberty died in the crash that occurred about 2:30 p.m. near South La Frenz and Ruth Ewing roads, police said.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Churchill was outside of the disabled vehicle when a pickup heading south on La Frenz struck Churchill on the northbound side of the road, police said. Churchill died at the scene.

The driver of the pickup walked away from the crash and was taken into custody nearby. The driver remains in custody pending possible charges, police said.

The Liberty Police Department is continuing to investigate the fatal crash.
