Motorcyclist dies after being critically injured in hit-and-run crash in Kansas City
A motorcyclist struck by a hit-and-run driver last week in Kansas City has died, a police spokesman said.
Police responded to a reported hit-and-run crash shortly before 11 p.m. Thursday at Independence Avenue and Van Brunt Boulevard, said Capt. Corey Carlisle, a spokesman for the Kansas City Police Department.
The preliminary investigation showed that a motorcyclist on a blue and white Vitacci Titan ERS 250 motorcycle was headed east on Independence Avenue. The motorcycle struck the median at Van Brunt and its rider was thrown off.
A white Honda Accord then struck the motorcyclist. The driver of the Honda left the scene of the crash and was later arrested by police, Carlisle said.
The motorcyclist, who has not been identified, was taken to a hospital in critical condition. Police were notified Saturday that the person had died from the injuries.
The motorcyclist’s death was the 50th traffic fatality of the year, which compares to 52 fatalities by this time last year, Carlisle said.
