Two kids, 18-year-old injured in attempted hit-and-run crash in Kansas City, police say
Two kids and an 18-year-old were injured in an attempted hit-and-run crash late Tuesday in Kansas City.
Officers responded around 9:35 p.m. to a home in the 5600 block of Olive Street, where two children and the 18-year-old man were injured when a Toyota Camry hit their Mongoose BMX bike, said Officer Alayna Gonzalez, a spokeswoman for the Kansas City Police Department.
The 18-year-old was sitting on the bike’s seat, while his nine-year-old brother rode the rearwheel foot bars and a six-year-old rode the front wheel foot bars, when the Toyota struck them.
For a short distance, the Toyota driver continued north on Olive before pulling over and attempting to flee on foot, Gonzalez said. Neighbors followed the driver and stopped him until police arrived.
The six-year-old was taken to a hospital with critical injuries. Both the nine-year-old and 18-year-old were taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life threatening.
The Toyota driver was not injured. Police are investigating whether the driver was impaired.
