A two-vehicle crash involving a Missouri Department of Transportation truck has blocked lanes of Interstate 29 in the Kansas City’s Northland at the peak of Wednesday morning’s rush hour, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

The crash occurred shortly before 8 a.m. just after U.S. 169 highway on northbound I-29. The injury wreck was causing delays for those headed from downtown into Kansas City to parts of the Northland. Traffic was backing up beyond the I-29 and Interstate 35 split.

“An incident has occurred on I-29 northbound just past U.S. 169,” the Missouri Department of Transportation’s Kansas City District said on Twitter. “Please seek other routes and use caution in the area.”

The crash occurred as a vehicle changed lanes into the one where the MoDOT truck was traveling, the highway patrol said on Twitter. The extent of and number of injuries were not immediately available.

The left lanes of northbound and southbound I-29 was blocked while the highway patrol investigated the crash. To keep traffic from merging into the crash scene, the highway patrol closed the ramp from northbound U.S. 169 to northbound I-29 as well.
