Deputies arrest 14-year-old in murder of 74-year-old southeast Kansas man, KBI says

A 14-year-old male has been arrested and charged with the murder of a 74-year-old southeast Kansas man, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation announced.

Thaine Lee Anderson was found dead in his Cherryvale, Kansas, home around 1:30 p.m. Friday, according to the KBI.

Labette County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a shooting call to the home at 21079 Douglas Road and found Anderson, who had suffered a gunshot wound to the head.

The suspect was arrested for first-degree murder and taken to the Southeast Kansas Regional Juvenile Center in Girard, Kansas. Authorities have not released the teen’s name or any further information about the case.

The KBI and Kansas Wildlife and Parks assisted in the investigation.
